the boys season 5 ★ 2026

This will have rants, ramblings, unmarked spoilers, and cringe! i guess……..

This season was garbage, but the ending was decent. Maybe because it wasn’t possible to ruin it since it was obvious what needed to happen to homelander and butcher, but the resolution was fast-paced, and it lacked the momentum it clearly needed. unfortunately, a waste of time.

for example, we have soldier boy, who’s most notable purpose in his character is to incapacitate homelander, which the writers couldn’t do in season 3 because they’re unable to kill off characters. this purpose was given to kimiko, since SB was a purposeless device when he returned. giving him a ‘deep romance’ with a character he mentioned once because of herogasm… hmhmhmhm.

and look, i was going to watch his spin-off anyway because i liked his character ok? lol. but then the writers forced these plot devices into his character to promote another spin-off that did not need to, since it is set years ago lmao. now im going to look like a dumbass!!!!

anyway. the supernatural references were annoying. soldier boy came back just because of funzies instead of providing a purposeful arc. guess that’s where all the money went to lol.

things that are supposed to be important did not end up being as terrifying as they had been portrayed. we have this subplot of both sides trying to get the v1 because it’s very important and getting hold of it is the key. well, SB gives it to homelander, it seems it power-ups blondie and everyone is scared, and bam the episode ends. next episode? somehow they escaped without any casualties despite homelander being a dog who can see everything. oh well but frenchie died so that must be enough ig (stupid way to die as well).

oh, also, why do i have to care about a dude from soldier boy’s past that has just been introduced for the spin-off? lol

it would’ve been better if we followed the previous episode since that had enough momentum: it was decent to kill off characters, good conflict... but no, somehow the boys always have time to plan whatever is going to obviously not work. also, it’s unfortunate that sage was a character that brought nothing to the table but *yay relatable* *taco bell girlie yay* *do you remember what she wants to do in her bunker?* in the end. i feel as if the writers didn’t know what else to do with a character that’s supposed to be smarter than them and forced her into a loop.

perhaps if there were more episodes, it would’ve been better to make some purposeful progress that didn’t feel rushed: hughie and butcher’s relationship and inevitable end; soldier boy’s development; frenchie dying early so kimiko has a BETTER conclusion arc... but even with the episodes we had, the writers gave the spotlight to nonsensical shit that had already concluded in the previous seasons. for being the last season, there was no sense of urgency? it was as if even if they were losing, there was no real danger. everyone was dumbed down as well— was genV forgotten or what? LOL

also, i’m just going to say that the real-life jokes were annoying too. when they started to spam jokes like that… yikes. homelander being turned into this 100% stupid guy (don't get me wrong, he is a manchild, but 100% >_>?) instead of making him a consisting menance (that he was in season1), just because wanting to make him, in the end, some type of comparison to tr*mp or of the current climate was very unfortunate. the show didn’t need to be a direct joke from the mag*s—the show's political message was clear since the early seasons and the last seasons didn't need to have this constant reminder of it, but the bald guy seems to not know how/when to separate his work from his internet persona. if anything, baldie is an example of when to know when to disengage with the community to not lose focus of your work.

the last scene of homelander were satisfying and funny, though.i'll suck your dick anthony did a great job portraying him, and i think it's the best thing we can take out of the show and why i could keep watching this lol. funny how the last episode rushed out everything that needed to be adressed in the past, oh well. ass jokes are more important!!!!!!!!

i almost forgot about the deep. didn't expect him to get a redemption arc tbh so it was ok ig. oh also i love ashely.

anyway. i’m old but still a nerd who mourns what could’ve been.
